Born 1962 in Steyr, Austria – lives and works in Vienna, Austria
The Austrian artist Michael Kienzer reflects in his oeuvre ideas around concepts of space and time, surfaces and the compression or loosening of it. Through objects, installations and drawings the artist approaches rooms and addresses their embedded rules and logics. With lapidary and trenchant interventions Kienzer works directly with the space itself and lays bare its physical and psychological power. The artworks often intrude and intervene, challenging the seemingly unchangeable structures of specific sites, exploring the relationship of subject, object and space. Kienzer has received several awards, among those the “Austrian Art Award for Fine Arts” in 2012 and in 2015 the “Award for Fine Art” by the city of Vienna.
